House to Confirm Puerto Rico State Secretary
SAN JUAN – House Majority Leader Gabriel Rodríguez Aguiló said the regulations of the lower chamber and its various commissions will be approved Monday so the evaluation and approval of the measures presented by Gov. Ricardo Rosselló Nevares can begin.
Moreover, the House will be confirming Secretary of State-designate Luis Rivera Marín.
“We have to act on the 10 bills presented by the governor. By day 12, we expect to approve the [amendments to the] Public Private Partnerships [Act], the measure of the [office of] special communities that will have other faculties and resources, and the women’s equal pay for equal work [measure].
“Today, it is also expected that other measures related to the single employer [mechanism] and labor laws will be filed and we will be working on that as well,” Rodríguez Aguiló said during a radio interview with Radio Isla 1320.
Once the inaugural session —scheduled for 1 p.m.— ends, the regulations of the House and its commissions will be approved to immediately begin the evaluation of the measures presented by the governor.
“House Speaker [Carlos ‘Johnny’ Méndez] has established that he will be assigning tasks today to each committee so that beginning tomorrow, we can approve measures subject to the agencies submitting their explanatory memorandums,” Rodríguez Aguiló added.
Meanwhile, the House majority speaker said the appointment of Rivera Marín as secretary of the State Department is ready to be confirmed.
