Hundreds of entrepreneurs participate in Google for Small Businesses event
SAN JUAN – More than 800 entrepreneurs participated in Tuesday’s Google for Small Businesses event in San Juan.
The purpose of the seminar focusing on how to use Google’s free tools to advance small businesses, organized by the Puerto Rico Trade & Export Co (CCE by its Spanish initials) at the Puerto Rico Convention Center district, was to contribute to the digital transformation of the island’s enterprises, Gov. Ricardo Rosselló said in a release.
“We know how important it is these days for small businesses to have an online presence and can thus publicize their services and products. Events like this will give them the necessary tools to achieve it and to reach new markets.”
CCE Executive Director Ricardo Llerandi added that “the event will allow them to see firsthand the opportunities offered by the internet to maximize and strengthen their companies and in turn show and export their products and services to a global market. To achieve this, companies must adapt to the new reality of doing business and implement the changes that are needed.”
The event featured a presentation by María Güitrón, Google account representative for Central America and the Caribbean. She spoke about the regional digital panorama, as well as the growth in digitization in Puerto Rico and the principal industries and searches on the company’s search engine.
Also discussed were successful digital campaigns, as well as free available tools specifically for businesses and best practices to find and retain customers through Google Adwords.
“We currently live in a highly digitized world where a large part of the population is surfing the net, looking for information on products, food businesses, lodging, specialized services and online shopping. For this reason, it is imperative that companies enter the digital world and in this way strengthen their businesses,” the executive director said.
The event took place during creative industries’ month as part of Puerto Rico Emprende, an initiative contained in the governor’s Plan for Puerto Rico that seeks to promote opportunities for the development of more local businesses to spur job creation, reactivate the local economy and achieve competitiveness.
