Puerto Rico Tourism Co. director removed
SAN JUAN – The chairman of the Puerto Rico Tourism Co.’s (PRTC) board, Manuel Laboy, said Monday evening that the public corporation tasked with promoting and regulating the industry had decided to remove its director, José Izquierdo.
The dismissal occurred in response to a request by Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, Chief of Staff William Villafañe announced.
Laboy said the PRTC’s legal counsel director, Janice Ramírez, was designated as interim director to ensure the continuity of work.
Villafañe explained that Izquierdo’s dismissal was requested “over lack of confidence in the director.”
On Monday as well, Police chief Michelle Hernández stepped down. Rosselló designated Lt. Col. Henry Escalera as interim chief while the administration searches for the force’s new chief.
