Accor Expands Presence in Cuba with Construction of Sofitel Luxury Hotel
AccorHotels is constructing the luxury Sofitel So Havana by the Cuban capital’s well known Malecón esplanade.
Considered the largest hotel group in Europe and Latin America, Accor expects the construction of the 218-room building to be completed by the end of 2018.
With already 20 years in Cuba, the French chain recently opened the Pullman Cayo Coco in the central province of Ciego de Ávila, the 100th of the brand worldwide.
The hotel chain entered Cuba in Dec. 4, 1995, and manages two midscale establishments on the island: the Mercure Sevilla Havana (178 rooms), located in the UNESCO world heritage site neighborhood of La Habana Vieja and the Mercure Playa de Oro (385 rooms) in the seaside resort of Varadero.
Accor is the world’s leading hotel operator, with 480,000 rooms in 3,700 hotels across 14 brands in 92 countries. In the Caribbean, it has 10 properties in Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the French West Indies (Martinique and Guadeloupe). In 2014, AccorHotels opened 30 hotels in South America.
