Former Gov. Rosselló Attends Former Senate President Rivera Schatz’s Fundraising Event

By on February 8, 2016

SAN JUAN – Former Puerto Rico Gov. Pedro Rosselló attended last week a fundraising event held by the former president of the Senate, Thomas Rivera Schatz, even though the legislative leader has yet to express support for the gubernatorial candidacy of Dr. Ricardo Rosselló, the former governor’s son.

At the event, the former governor made a categorical call for New Progressive Party (NPP) unity because, he said, it needs to be “more united than ever.”

When referring to the NPP’s efforts to promote statehood, Pedro Rosselló said, “Never before in our history have the elements been so aligned to achieve what has been fought for for so many years.”

“Because we see that if we can work together and united in the same direction, now, more than ever before, we have the greatest opportunities to achieve it,” he added.

For his part, Rivera Schatz, who does not rule out presiding the Puerto Rico Senate a second time, introduced Pedro Rosselló at the event as “a great friend” and as the “best governor Puerto Rico has had.”

However, Ricardo “Ricky” Rosselló openly supports the NPP’s Vice President, Yauco Mayor Abel Nazario, to preside over the Senate if the party wins a legislative majority in November’s general elections.
