AT&T Launches 5G in Puerto Rico, other markets

SAN JUAN – AT&T has launched its 5G network in 28 new U.S. markets, and now covers more than 179 million people. AT&T now offers the next generation technology for cellular networks on certain unlimited wireless plans for consumers and businesses in 355 U.S. markets.
The technology requires a compatible device and plan for 5G and 5G+ connections.
In parts of some markets, AT&T has enabled dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) technology, which the company explained “allows carriers to share the same channel between both 4G and 5G users simultaneously, based on demand, creating a seamless experience for customers,” and helping the company deploy 5G faster and more efficiently, while creating a more resilient network.
“DSS is an important steppingstone on our path to nationwide 5G,” Igal Elbaz, the senior vice president of wireless and access technology, said in the release. “We were the first U.S. carrier to deploy this technology in our network, and it’s now playing an important role as we work toward a nationwide 5G footprint this summer.”
