Bernier: Voters will ‘pass judgment’ on former Speaker Perelló
SAN JUAN – Popular Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate David Bernier said Monday that, although Rep. Jaime Perelló hasn’t given up his seat, it is a “closed issue” and voters will “pass judgment” on the legislator.
Perelló gave up the lower chamber’s presidency at Bernier’s behest after having been mentioned in testimony by Anaudi Hernández, a convicted PDP fundraiser. The gubernatorial candidate asked the former speaker to also quit his re-election bid, but hasn’t received a response from the representative.
“The matter is now closed. He hasn’t answered and there is no communication with him,” the also PPD president said.
The gubernatorial hopeful has said that Perelló’s presence on the PDP ballot “creates distraction. It is a very loud noise that hinders the specific discussions, important to transform the country, from taking the leading role in the public process.”
