The Danger to the United States is Real

There is something strange, and I think very dangerous, In 2015, when I first saw Donald Trump announce on TVthat he was running for president, my immediate, gut reaction was: “This guy has serious mental problems. This guy is a real danger.”

You don’t have to be a psychiatrist to see that someone is mentally “not normal.” And it turned out that I was not alone. In 2017, the first year of Trump presidency, 27 prominent psychiatrists and mental health experts in the U.S. published a book, “The Dangerous case of Donald Trump,” an instant New York Times bestseller, compiled by psychiatrist Brandy X. Lee of the Yale School of Medicine. Two years later, a second edition came out, this time with 37 mental health experts. The first line reads: “Donald Trump is a profound danger to Americans and to the rest of the world.”

Repeated again and again throughout the book, the psychiatrists and mental health experts explain in great detail why, as Dr. Philip Zimbardo of Stamford University, wrote: “we believe that Donald Trump is the most dangerous man in the world”.

When Mary Trump published her book on her uncle in 2020, she used the same phrase, describing him in the book’s title as “the world’s most dangerous man.” A psychologist, she grew up in the Trump family.
