COVID-19 report includes 11 new deaths

Health Dept. registers 690 more cases in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN – The Department of Health reported 11 deaths from COVID-19 and 399 additional confirmed and 291 probable cases of the disease.
Among the deceased reported Friday, 10 were confirmed cases and listed as follows:

  • 73-year-old man from the Metro region
  • 82-year-old man from the Arecibo region
  • 72-year-old man from the Metro region
  • 72-year-old man from the Metro region
  • 66-year-old man from the Metro region
  • 90-year-old woman from the Metro region
  • 66-year-old woman from the Metro region
  • 82-year-old man from the Arecibo region
  • 24-year-old man from the Arecibo region
  • 47-year-old man from the Caguas region

The probable death was of a 63-year-old woman from the Fajardo region, registered as such for having been due to Covid-19 but lacking a diagnostic test.

The number of confirmed deaths to date is now 192, while 125 probable deaths have been reported, for a total of at least 317 people having lost their lives to the pandemic-creating coronavirus.

“It is important to remember that any death registered after the report is issued will be reflected in subsequent reports,” the Health Department said in its daily press release. “The change in the number of deaths should not be interpreted as having occurred in the last 24 hours. Similarly, it is important to point out that the death report may vary, as the processes of registration and codification of the causes of death occur, which could take several days.”

As for diagnosed cases, testing has confirmed 10,730 to date.

“The total was adjusted after subtracting four duplicate cases. In addition, 56 cases were added with a sample collection date that ranges from June 18 to July 29. Of that total, 5,524 are women and 5,206 men. The reported cases are those that have a positive PCR test, with a sample collection date of July 31 to August 11,” the Health Department said.

In the report, 291 additional probable cases were registered, with a sampling date that ranges from July 31 to Aug. 11. The number of those case to date totals 14,398, “after being adjusted, by subtracting 85 cases that had a positive molecular test, and were later added to the cases registered as part of this report. Similarly, a duplicate case was subtracted and 26 cases were added with a sample collection date from June 8 to July 29. Probable cases are divided into 7,882 women and 6,516 men,” the department said.
