DDEC Announces Reopening of Entrepreneurship Centers

By on June 14, 2021

In accordance with the new stipulations established in the latest Covid-19 related executive order (EO) issued by Gov. Pedro Pierluisi, Economic Development & Commerce Secretary Manuel Cidre announced the reopening of the Entrepreneurship Centers to promote shared workspaces where companies can grow, train and establish business contacts.

“At this time when we are reviving our economy, the reopening of these co-work centers represents a real alternative for many entrepreneurs, providing them with office space for those who do not have it,” Cidre said. “This type of concept fosters an open ecosystem to encourage networking among its visitors. Tempered with these new times, in which the modality of remote work has been established, the centers offer the possibility of obtaining the comfort and services of a traditional office, but in a flexible and free of cost format.”

The Entrepreneurship Centers, located in San Juan, Ponce, and Mayagüez, have a co-working area, conference rooms, workshops, or webinars with audiovisual equipment, high-speed Internet access, printer, and photocopying services. In addition, each center will have an extensive calendar of workshops, both in-person and virtual, to promote recovery and allow the development of new businesses.

“Through these workshops, we seek to foster a business class that is better trained and prepared to capitalize on business opportunities, both locally and abroad,” he added.

The Economic Development & Commerce Department (DDEC by its Spanish acronym) secretary further noted that “through this initiative, we seek to improve the competitiveness of our companies in the global market.”

The Entrepreneurship Centers and some of the activities celebrated there are subsidized by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA).
