Facebook launches sales application in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN – Global social media and networking company Facebook announced the launch of “Marketplace,” a new application in Puerto Rico that allows users on the island to sell and buy through a click, by uploading a photo to Facebook, establishing the price and interacting with customers through the company’s Messenger platform.
“Today, we launched Marketplace, a unique place on Facebook that helps people discover, buy and sell products locally. We know that people already use Facebook to buy and sell with people in their community and, now, we are making things easier,” said Karandeep Anand, director of product management at Marketplace.

The platform allows users to place the product photo, set the price and category from Facebook, and establish communication through Messenger. In addition, it simplifies finding what you want, from the same search engine, where the results are filtered by location, category or price.
Currently, this new application is active in 37 countries and is visited by 557 million people every month. Likewise, it has experienced exponential growth worldwide since May 1.
Since its initial launch, the application has increased unique conversations between buyers and sellers by 77%.
The preferred categories in Marketplace globally are vehicles, furniture, electronics and computers. The cities where the application is most used outside the United States are Santiago, Chile; Mexico City; and London.
