Fiscal board to decide this week about $500 stimulus for private employees, pensioners

SAN JUAN – The representative of the Financial Oversight and Management Board (FOMB), Edward Zayas, said Thursday that, later this week it will be known what will happen with the $500 stimulus check that Gov. Wanda Vázquez Garced requested the federally created panel for authorization to disburse.

“That is being evaluated right now. I believe that this week we will have an answer about that; later this week. They are measures that would directly impact people. Additional information had been requested. We are evaluating it and then later this week we will have an answer,” Zayas said in a radio interview (NotiUno).

At the end of April, Vázquez Garced criticized that the FOMB had conditioned the payment of the incentive to the disbursement of other previously approved aid after FOMB Executive Director Natalie Jaresko asked the government to release federal funds, before granting the additional $500 to private sector employees and pensioners. Jaresko also said the panel received a letter with the request, but not a detailed proposal.
