According to a written statement from La Fortaleza, the president’s trip is “part of his administration’s efforts to address the fiscal crisis across the island and to promote measures that will benefit Puerto Rico’s economic development.”

The governor’s schedule includes meetings with members of the Congressional Task Force on Economic Growth, created under the Promesa Act, and White House officials.

García Padilla will also meet with members of the manufacturing industry to continue seeking the sector’s support in promoting certain measures in Washington.

Commonwealth Secretary of State Víctor Suárez Meléndez will serve as interim governor until Wednesday, November 30, when the governor is expected to return.
