Government, Academia Reach Agreement to Develop Workforce
Will Provide Training for Participants of Labor Development Program
Puerto Rico’s Economic Development and Commerce Department (DDEC by its Spanish initials) and the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) signed a collaborative agreement that will allow specialized training to be offered to participants of the agency’s Labor Development Program (LDP) under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, DDEC Secretary Manuel Cidre announced alongside the chancellor of the UPR’s Río Piedras campus, Luis Ferrao. The federal law provides workforce development initiatives to help job seekers, dislocated workers and young people access new employment opportunities, education, job training and support services to succeed in the job market. In addition, it matches employers with qualified job candidates.
