Governor Appoints Omar Marrero As Secretary of State
Governor Pedro Pierluisi appointed Omar Marrero Díaz, the Puerto Rico Fiscal Agency and Financial Advisory Authority (AAFAF) executive director, as Secretary of State.
The head of AAFAF, who deals directly with the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico (FOMB), a congressionally mandated office that oversees the commonwealth’s finances, will remain in his position until Pierluisi designates a replacement.
“All the appointments I have made have been of fully qualified individuals to fill the positions I have entrusted to them. Today is no exception. I am happy to announce Omar Marrero Díaz as Secretary of State of Puerto Rico,” Pierluisi said.
Marrero Díaz held several positions during the last years as secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO), executive director of the Ports Authority, the Convention District Authority, and the Public-Private Partnerships Authority.
He also oversaw the creation of the Office of Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience, better known as COR3. In this role, the Marrero Díaz established government relations with FEMA and the US Department of Housing.
“We need a person committed to Puerto Rico. His experience in government, complemented by his work in private business and academia, gives him a comprehensive background that has thoroughly prepared him for the post of Secretary of State. Marrero Díaz has consistently shown that his commitment to Puerto Rico is unquestionable,” the governor said.
