Gubernatorial Hopefuls to Propose their Tech Initiatives
SAN JUAN – Five Puerto Rico gubernatorial candidates will present their proposals regarding the island’s technology sector during the third annual CIO and IT Leadership Conference, scheduled for Feb. 26 at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino, the Puerto Rico IT Cluster (PRITC) board announced Wednesday.
The announcement didn’t go into detail as to which candidates will participate, although the event’s website lists four: Ricardo Rosselló Nevares and Pedro Pierluisi of the New Progressive Party, and independent candidates Manuel Cidre and Alexandra Lúgaro.
“The event continues its mission to promote the necessary conditions for the information technology sector to grow as an engine for economic development,” said Christian González, PRITC chairman.
“We have traditionally done this in part by bringing together leaders in the industrial, government and academic sectors to propose projects and solutions,” González noted. “This time around, being an election year, we think it is extremely relevant to listen to the candidates state their proposals to continue positioning the sector as an engine for innovation, exports and job creation.”
The event’s agenda will also address such topics as innovations in the healthcare sector, cybersecurity and trends related to big data, or data sets that are too large to be processed easily by standard software.
