Hanes to close operations in Camuy, affecting over 100 employees

By on February 2, 2017

CAMUY –  A letter shared on social media announced the closure of Hanesbrands Inc. in Camuy, resulting in more than 100 layoffs.

Popular Democratic Party (PDP) Rep. César Hernández Alfonso shared on his Twitter account a copy of the letter sent by the company, in which it announced its decision to close at the end of April.

In his tweet, the representative questioned whether the decision could have been caused by the implementation of the Labor Transformation & Flexibility Act signed last week by Gov. Ricardo Rosselló.

According to the letter, dated Jan. 24, the decision to close the Seamless Textiles factory in Camuy arises from a need to maintain the company’s competitiveness in the current market.

The letter also specifies that employees will be dismissed once the 60-day period established by the company concludes.
