SAN JUAN – Actor, commentator and singer Horacio Olivo, who excelled in the political satire troupe “Los Rayos Gamma,” along with Silverio Pérez, Jacobo Morales and Sunshine Logroño, died of health complications Sunday at Pavia Hospital in Hato Rey.

The Dorado native had undergone open-heart surgery in November 2011.

In the 1950s, Olivo began his career working in radio dramas, adventures series and advertisements. He also served as newsreader on WIPR radio for 27 years.

He graduated from the Instituto Comercial de Puerto Rico, and studied for three years at the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory. He participated in various Festival Casals concerts as a tenor in the chorus section.

Olivo’s passing comes just as “Los Rayos Gamma” prepare its “La Promesa” show slated for Aug. 5 and 6 in Ponce’s La Perla Theater.
