House Health Committee to Discuss Aerial Insecticide Spraying
SAN JUAN – The House of Representatives’ Committee on Health, chaired by Rep. Lydia Méndez Silva, will be holding a public hearing Tuesday to discuss the aerial spraying of insecticide to combat mosquitos carrying the Zika virus, while activists plan a demonstration for Wednesday in front of La Fortaleza to prevent the spraying with Naled.
The House hearing is meant to address Resolution 11, which orders a study on the current status of medical-hospital and outpatient services, medical and paramedical facilities, and on the general state of healthcare in Puerto Rico.
Among the topics to be discussed is the aerial spraying of the insecticide against zika.
The United Front Against Aerial Spraying, a group composed of organizations and environmental, healthcare, agriculture, beekeeping, agro-ecology and social justice advocates, convened a demonstration in front of La Fortaleza to protest the measure. The protest is slated for Wednesday at 4 p.m.
