Island’s first Red Lobster to Open in December at Plaza Las Américas
SAN JUAN – Puerto Rican company Restaurant Operators Inc. (ROI) announced Monday that construction on the first Red Lobster restaurant in Puerto Rico will begin in May this year, an endeavor that represents a $2 million investment and the creation of nearly 125 employment opportunities.
The restaurant is slated to open in December. Red Lobster is the leading seafood casual dining restaurant in the U.S., with over 700 locations.
The chain’s first restaurant in Puerto Rico will be in the Plaza Las Américas shopping center, specifically in the area formerly occupied by Banco Santander. It will feature a 7,000-square-foot dining area and capacity to host 230 guests.
ROI partners Dionisio and Carlos Trigo and Jorge Colón Gerena, the brand franchise operator in the local market, expressed themselves committed and proud to include Red Lobster in the company’s portfolio of restaurants, which also includes the brands Olive Garden, Sizzler and LongHorn Steakhouse.
“As a group we continue to believe and invest in Puerto Rico, presenting consumers with new and innovative alternatives. Red Lobster fulfills our criteria and high standards of quality, service, innovation and great taste. It excites us to be able to develop and grow this brand in Puerto Rico,” said Dionisio Trigo, president of ROI.
Jaime Fonalledas, president of Plaza Las Americas, commented the arrival of Red Lobster to the mall strengthens its gastronomic offering.
“We welcome the prestigious restaurant that’s coming to the market at the hands of a Puerto Rican group of experienced and knowledgeable professionals with whom we already enjoy an excellent relationship through previous endeavors, including Applebee’s in Plaza Las Américas, Sizzler in Plaza Las Américas and Plaza del Caribe, and LongHorn in Plaza del Caribe,” Fonalledas commented.
Fonalledas also explained that to enable the location that Red Lobster will occupy on the first level of the shopping mall, the Banco Santander branch was relocated to the locale just in front, which was once occupied by BBVA bank.
Once up and running, the Red Lobster will bring to the local market a unique concept in the casual dining category, one focused on fresh seafood in a cozy and family-friendly atmosphere, with accessible pricing.
The chain is known for its Maine lobsters, its commitment to seafood freshness and quality, and for its wood-fire grilling.
The house combo menu, a variety of shrimp, lobsters and crabs, will also feature local fresh-fish-of-the-day carte as well as red snapper and Mahi-mahi, as well as soups, salads, desserts, and the chain’s famous Cheddar Cheese Biscuits.
