Jenniffer González meets with Promesa Task Force member Bob Menéndez
WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of her efforts in Washington, D.C., Rep. Jenniffer González met Tuesday with Sen. Bob Menéndez (D-NJ), one of the members of the Congressional Task Force on Economic Growth for Puerto Rico created by the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management and Economic Stability Act (Promesa)
González, the New Progressive Party (NPP) candidate for resident commissioner, said in a release that during her meeting with Menéndez they discussed the proposals she sent along with her party’s gubernatorial candidate, Ricardo Rosselló, to the task force.
Among her proposals are expanding HUBZones, including Puerto Rico in all federal statistics, and equal treatment by the U.S. Health Department.
‘We believe there won’t be a problem with the inclusion of our proposals in economic task force’s final recommendations [which will receive recommendations until Oct. 14 and present its report to the Federal Oversight Board in December),” said González, who is also president of the Puerto Rico Republican Party.
For the extent of the week, the legislator will continue her meetings with other task force members, such as Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi, Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.), and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
She will also attend a meeting with U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan and Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-Idaho), among other legislative leaders and industry representatives from Puerto Rico’s private sector.
González also led a forum for Running Start, an entity that aims to motivate young women to enter politics.
