SAN JUAN – U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will be among the speakers at a conference that’s billed as the largest women’s innovation platform in the Americas, the Animus Summit, which will be held Friday, Sept. 30, in San Juan’s Caribe Hilton Hotel.

“Investing in women is a key driver to boost the economic development of any country,” summit co-founder Lucienne Gigante said. “Providing resources, solutions and opportunities is critical to stimulate innovation.”

The second Animus summit is structured to feature various formats—from 5-minute talks and 10-minute storytelling sessions, to keynotes and panels. It will also feature a startup showcase in which five entrepreneurs will pitch their businesses.

“You are not aware of your options without knowledge. This is why the purpose of Animus is to empower our society with the right tools to, in turn, inspire talented people to become entrepreneurs, striving to reach their true potential,” said Carlos Cobian, founder of Cobian Media and co-founder Animus.

Last year’s summit was attended by 600 people. Besides Justice Sotomayor, the speaker lineup includes Maite Oronoz Rodríguez, chief justice of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court and the fifth woman to serve on Puerto Rico’s highest court; Eliana Murillo, head of Multicultural Marketing at Google; Frances Colón, deputy Science and Technology Adviser to the U.S. secretary of State; Katina Rojas-Joy, senior director, specialty sales (Armed Forces) and Policy Research for Respira Medical and former deputy director of the U.S. Commerce Department ; María Cristina González Noguera, senior vice president, Global Public Affairs and Government Relations at The Estée Lauder Companies and former assistant to the President Obama and director of communications for first lady Michelle Obama; Teruca Rullán, senior vice president of Corporate Communications, Popular Inc.; Giselle Blondet, entrepreneur, actress and TV host; Ana Belaval, features reporter, WGN Morning News; Alessandra Bradley-Burns, chief strategic officer, DEILA; Jovanka Ciares, creator of the Wellness Smackdown; and Nathalie Molina-Nino, CEO of Self Made.
