Knox Medical inaugurates its first cannabis dispensary in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN – Florida-based Knox Medical has inaugurated its first medical cannabis dispensary in the Caribbean, on Roosevelt Avenue in San Juan’s Hato Rey district, with an investment of more than $2.5 million.
“These new and modern facilities have the highest compliance standards, where we will be offering an excellent service to more than 15,000 certified patients in Puerto Rico,” Knox Medical Puerto Rico founder & CEO José J. Hidalgo, who also has real-estate development experience, said in a published statement.
The new San Juan clinic is authorized to dispense and deliver products with THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), which are produced in its laboratory. Knox has its own cultivation and manufacturing facility in Barranquitas.
According to the release, the company considers itself the leading stateside medicinal cannabis brand. Its first dispensary was Knox Nursery of Winter Garden, Fla.
“Knox has invested in technology to support the development of our medicines. The retired engineers from NASA designed our extraction equipment and our head of manufacturing has degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience from Tufts University and a degree in Microbiology and Cell Sciences from the University of Florida. The growing area is compatible with radio frequency identification [RFID] technology. This allows us to collect information about our raw material and product until it reaches the patient’s hands, which gives us confidence in our operation,” Hidalgo adds.
José Julio Aparicio, president of Knox Medical Puerto Rico, said the clinic counts on “the future support of already certified patients and the country’s medical community.”
