Lanes to Be Closed Temporarily in Las Américas Highway
SAN JUAN – The Infrastructure Financing Authority (AFI), Transportation and Public Works Department (DTOP), and the Highways and Transportation Authority (ACT) announced Monday the temporary closure of the Las Américas Highway (PR-18) from San Juan to the former Río Piedras State Penitentiary known as Oso Blanco.
The closure is due to pruning of foliage and the installation of a sanitation pipe as part of construction work on Laboratorio Street, which in turn is part of the construction of the Science City project.
The aforementioned work will be carried out from Friday, July 22, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and will run through Monday, July 25.
As an alternate route, drivers heading toward San Juan may use the PR-1 East exit toward Río Piedras and continue along PR-1, passing by the Cupey Urban Train station, to turn left at the traffic light on PR-21 until the exit ramp to San Juan.
