Also driving investor sentiment is the heightened tension between the United States and China. Another matter weighing heavily is the weakening health of the global economy.

- The Standard & Poor’s 500 index closed at 2,948.51, down 23.1 points, or 0.78%.
- The Nasdaq Composite index closed at 9.284.88, down 90.9, or 0.97%.
- The Birling Capital Puerto Rico Stock Index closed at 1,396.22, up 21.73, or 1.5%.
