SAN JUAN — The U.S. and global markets rose sharply Tuesday with investors full of optimism as economies reopen, hoping there will be a quick economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
As lockdown measures are relaxed, positive investor sentiment is on the rise. We shall see how long it’s held. Also Tuesday, a critical benchmark, new home sales rose to 623,000, up 0.65% from the 619,000 sold last month, the Commerce Department reported.
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 24,995.11, up 529.95 points, or 2.2%.
- The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index closed at 2,991.77, up 36.32 points, or 1.2%.
- The NASDAQ Composite index closed at 9,340.22, up 15.63 points, or 0.2%.
- The Birling Capital Puerto Rico Stock Index closed at 1,381.57.
