MCS Classicare offers drive-thru flu vaccinations
SAN JUAN — Medical Card System Inc. (MCS) announced its influenza education and vaccination campaign across Puerto Rico.
Its clinics are available, drive-through, for adults over 65 years of age and to members of MCS Classicare. Some of the towns that will be visited include Caguas, Aguadilla, Guayama, Ponce, Bayamón, Canóvanas, San Juan, Hatillo, Mayagüez and Carolina.
“At times like the ones we are living in, it becomes more urgent to protect our older adults. We want everyone to be safe. The influenza virus can lead to hospitalization and cause serious health complications in older adults, who constitute one of the most vulnerable populations for this and other respiratory diseases. However, through vaccination, we can protect them,” said Anabelle Carrión, assistant vice president of Health Promotion and Wellbeing at MCS.
Carrión said that adults over 60, as well as people with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma and heart disease, should be vaccinated.
“Getting vaccinated this influenza season will be more important than ever, not only to reduce the risk of infection and its complications, but also to preserve the available medical care resources, which are so necessary to continue attending the pandemic situation that we face because of COVID-19,” Carrión said.
People at the the vaccination clinics must present their health insurer’s card and a photo ID. At each event, MCS Classicare staff will educate participants as part of its campaign against influenza. Vaccinations will be administered from 8 a.m. at 1 p.m. Patients may visit the nearest clinic and will not have to get out of their vehicle to get vaccinated.
