NPP files mandamus, demands guest list for governor’s ‘Choliseo’ suite

SAN JUAN – New Progressive Party (NPP) House candidate Félix Lasalle declared he will present a mandamus to the San Juan District Court to force La Fortaleza to reveal Governor Alejandro García Padilla’s guest list to suite 15 of the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum, also known locally as the ‘Choliseo.’

“We’ll give them until next Monday, Sept. 19, to reveal to the people in the list of all the guests to the governor’s luxurious suite in the Choliseo. It’s been over a week since García Padilla said he would publish the list, under pressure by the media. The governor has until next Monday to do what’s right, or the court will force him to do it,” Lasalle stressed.

“This administration is shameless. Just days before [Hernández Pérez] revealed the abuse [of using the] suite, La Fortaleza authorized Secretary of State Víctor Suárez and a group of guests to use it during the Rubén Blades concert, almost two weeks ago. The list must be made public so the people know who benefitted from their few resources,” added the NPP candidate.

According to Hernández Pérez’s testimony, he used the suite to attend concerts by artists such as Don Omar, Miley Cyrus, 30 Seconds to Mars, Yandel, David Bisbal, Plan B, La Ley, Carlos Vives, Wisin, Prince Royce, REO Speedwagon, Starship, Jowell y Randy, Zion & Lennox, Ricardo Arjona, Tego Calderón, Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull, among others.

The mandamus is a privileged and optional recourse issued to order any natural person, corporation, government agency, or even a lower-ranking court to fulfill or execute an act that is part of its or their duties and attributions.

Lasalle also spoke out against PDP President and gubernatorial candidate David Bernier for failing to call for the publication of the guest list.

“Our gubernatorial candidate, Ricardo Rosselló Nevares, has emphasized these abuses will not continue. However, David Bernier hasn’t reproached that this, his administration, continues to waste public funds in entertaining ‘lifelong friends’ … in this presidential suite. That’s the huge difference between both candidates–one talks and acts while the other doesn’t say anything and doesn’t find out about anything,” concluded the pro-statehood politician.
