“Continuing with the request of our House Speaker-elect Carlos “Johnny” Méndez Núñez of austerity and prudence in the use of public funds, the Inaugural Session will be very simple, strictly protocol and without superfluous expenses,” affirmed the official in written declarations.
Santiago explained that labors will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the traditional “sound of the bell” that announces the beginning of the session.
“According to protocol established for this type of session. the House functions president, Secretary of the Body, Ayleen Figueroa, will open labors with a greeting for all representatives. Then there will be an invocation, followed by the color presentation on behalf of the National Guard and official national anthems of Puerto Rico and the United States. Then begins the process of nominating the speaker and presenting the House leadership,” she added.
The presentation of Puerto Rico’s national anthem will be in charge of a muscular-dystrophy patient, while the U.S. anthem will be interpreted by a public-school student.
Santiago also confirmed the majority presence of the Supreme Court Associate Judges, as well as mayors and officials from the Executive branch. Gov. Ricardo Rosselló is expected to be present during the session.
Once the nomination process is completed, the House Speaker-elect will offer his acceptance speech, to then bring closure to the Inaugural Session.
