Police to Close Certain Streets on Labor Day
In Attempt to Prevent Expected Protests
SAN JUAN – The Puerto Rico Police Bureau said Thursday it was closing several roadways Friday, May 1, which is International Workers Day, also known as Labor Day and May Day.
According to a police release, the island’s union organizations have called on their members and the public to participate in various protests on May 1.
“In order to preserve and maintain a safe environment, both for protesters and for all citizens who transit or visit the municipality of San Juan,” the following roads will be closed Thursday afternoon and Friday.
Milla de Oro (Golden Mile) banking district in Hato Rey
Juan Ponce de León Avenue in front of the Liberty building
Carlos Chardón Avenue and Escuela Libre de Música intersection
Luis Muñoz Rivera Avenue and Alterial B Avenue (detour for Highway 25).
