Ponce Mayor leaves race for Mayors Federation presidency
Ponce Mayor María “Mayita” Meléndez informed Sunday that she accepted to represent the Mayors Federation before the Fiscal Oversight & Management Board, and expressed support to Arecibo Mayor Carlos Molina to lead the entity that groups New Progressive Party (NPP) mayors.

This way, Meléndez dismisses her interest in substituting Guaynabo Mayor Héctor O’Neill from the Federation’s presidency, the latter of which would become a member of the Municipal Revenue Collections Center (CRIM by its Spanish acronym).
Thus, Molina is still on the race for the presidency against his Camuy counterpart, Edwin García Feliciano. As informed, Molina is endorsed by the majority of NPP mayors, including O’Neill and the entity’s former chairman, Fajardo Mayor Aníbal Meléndez.
Molina’s work team would be composed by Canóvanas Mayor Lornna Soto as vice president, and Naguabo’s chief executive, Noé Marcano, as second vice president. The Federation will hold an assembly in March, by which Molina is expected to be selected as the new chairman.
