Ports Authority Completes Project at Mercedita International Airport
The Puerto Rico Ports Authority (APPR by its Spanish acronym) completed a waterproofing project at the terminal for arrivals at the Mercedita International Airport in Ponce, enabling the facility’s use.
During the passage of Hurricane María in September 2017, the Mercedita de Ponce airport suffered the rupture of drainage pipes and the detachment of the roof waterproofing system, allowing water to enter the terminal’s interior.
APPR completed the design process and held an auction to carry out the roof repair. The project consisted of removing the existing waterproofing system, the restoration of the roof surface, the replacement of the drains, and the installation of the new material over an area of 45,000 square feet.
