PPG Adds a Fresh Coat of Joy to Customers’ Lives

By on April 15, 2021

For more than 135 years, PPG has remained committed to work every day to develop and deliver the paint, coatings and specialty materials that customers have come to trust.

“Through dedication and creativity, we solve our customers’ biggest challenges, collaborating closely to find the right path forward,” said Víctor Echevarría, PPG regional sales manager in Puerto Rico. “We partner with our customers to empower successful outcomes for every project, every time, through expertise built over more than 135 years, informed by our global reach and understanding of customers’ needs in the market.”

PPG was founded in 1883 as Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. Over its history, the company has strategically transformed from a Pennsylvania-based plate glass manufacturer into a leading paint, coatings and specialty materials manufacturer with more than 46,000 employees and 150 manufacturing facilities in 70 countries. PPG acquired AkzoNobel’s North American decorative coatings business in 2013, adding Glidden paint to its portfolio.

“The paint industry has reached a pivotal moment where customers have become even more comfortable with—and oftentimes expect—an easy-to-navigate ecommerce experience and seamless pickup and delivery options,” said Echevarría. “COVID-19 has accelerated the need for these types of digitally driven buying models, and we as manufacturers have a responsibility to continue to anticipate our customer needs in a post-COVID world.”

Echevarría explained that at the onset of the pandemic, with almost every countries sheltering in place for an extended period, travel slowed and as a result dampened demand in several coatings end-use markets, including aerospace, automotive refinish and automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

“On the other hand, we saw an increase in demand in 2020 in other markets, including our architectural coatings business in Puerto Rico,” said Echevarría, who leads the PPG team in Puerto Rico, whose headquarters are in Carolina. “As much of the world continued to spend more time at home, homeowners have taken a closer look at their spaces, evaluating how they function and how it makes them feel.”

PPG’s presence in Puerto Rico includes more than 35 company-owned stores and more than 100 employees. The company serves customers through well-known, industry-leading paints and coatings brands including PPG PAINTS, GLIDDEN paint, LIQUID NAILS adhesives, HOMAX specialty products, and protective and marine coatings.
