Puerto Rican Producers Highlight Products at MIDA Convention

SAN JUAN – Ten Puerto Rican producers highlighted their products during their participation in the Chamber of Food Marketing, Industry & Distribution’s (MIDA by its Spanish acronym) convention, which concludes Sunday in Fajardo.

With a variety of new products and goals, the convention featured the participation of such farming companies as Ganaderos Borges, Ganaderos Alvarado, Granja Mi Santo, Granja Avícola Pujols, Café Gustos, Café Hacienda Tres Ángeles, Hidropónicos El Llano, Setas de Puerto Rico, Vaca Negra and Sofrito Doña Tere.

MIDA conventionGanaderos Alvarado urged consumers to buy fresh local meat in order to continue promoting and strengthening the island’s food security. The beef industry in Puerto Rico contributed more than $29 million in 2013-2014.

Also emphasized at the convention was the Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture’s retaking of the Delpaís brand, the most recognized by local consumers.

Café Cibales, Industria Lechera, Indulac, Hidrocultivos Carolinenses and La Ceba were other companies that participated in support of the Agricultural Development Innovation Fund.
