Puerto Rico CPA Society to hold 7th cybersecurity forum Friday

SAN JUAN – The Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants will hold its VII Cyber Forum: Global Impact of Data & Privacy Breaches on Nov. 9 at the InterContinental San Juan Resort & Casino.

The keynote speaker will be attorney Ronald Plesco Jr., principal in charge of Cyber Response at Netherlands-based financial-audit, -tax and -advisory firm KPMG. CPA Society forum veteran Cinthia Granados, director of Global Data Privacy and Information Security practice group at Detroit-based law firm Dykema, will deliver an update on cybersecurity legislation “and the most notorious cases,” the CPA Society said. In addition, a panel of experts will conduct a presentation on the “multiple angles of a cyber attack.”

The topic of managing ever-evolving cyber risks will be led by Erik Harssema, Cyber Services director at KPMG, who will be alongside Plesco. John Farley, vice president of Cyber Risk Management Services at Chicago-based insurer HUB International, will speak about the insurance-related services available to protect companies. Jacinto Cofino, president of JC Payment Solutions, will discuss security standards and payment-card-industry compliance challenges.

Ralph Severini, Global Accounts and Alliances manager at Hyland Software, developer of the enterprise content and process management software OnBase, will talk about how to understand and manage complex cybersecurity risks. Álex Guillemot, head of Latin American & Caribbean practice of Kennedys Americas, will address the issue of risks associated with privacy controls.

To educate on potential cyber liability claims and related class-action litigation will be Financial Lines Claims managers at AIG Insurance Puerto Rico & Caribbean, Dignelis Jiménez Hernández and Tanya Sánchez Álvarez. And on the public relations component of managing a data breach, Wanda Betancourt, ARP’s Public Relations & Crisis consultant, will delve into how to handle incidents.

“This forum, which is for the general public, is a giant step in our effort to strengthen cybersecurity and the prevention of cybercrime in industries and businesses,” CPA Society President Cecilia Colón stated Tuesday.
