Puerto Rico fiscal board looking to hire a claims counsel

By on October 25, 2018

SAN JUAN – The Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico issued a request for proposals (RFP) Thursday for a claims counsel to assist the panel’s Special Claims Committee as it considers potential claims that might arise from the debt investigation report published by Kobre & Kim on Aug. 20.

“This is an additional step taken by the Committee in light of the importance of the debt investigation to evaluate whether the facts found can support the view that any of the parties involved in Puerto Rico’s fiscal crisis committed conduct that is actionable under certain federal, state, and local laws,” the board said in a release.

The board said the scope of the counsel’s work will include “review and assessment of the Report and the factual materials that form the basis of the Report, legal research as necessary to advise the Committee regarding potential causes of action and initiation of any litigation arising from the conduct described and/or referrals to prosecutorial or regulatory bodies.”

All inquiries and correspondence during the RFP process should be addressed to board General Counsel Jaime A. El Koury, at jaime.elkoury@promesa.gov.

The response to the RFP is due by Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.

The RFP may be accessed at the board’s website: www.oversightboard.pr.gov.
