Puerto Rico hosts largest tourism marketing event in Caribbean
SAN JUAN – Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló participated Tuesday in the opening of the 15th annual Caribbean Travel Marketplace, a tourism marketing event consisting of two days of scheduled business meetings between industry suppliers and buyers.
This event forms the basis for planning and coordinating group packages and vacations for the entire year.
“Having the opportunity to host this important event, just months after Hurricane Maria, is a strong indicator of the speed at which tourism in Puerto Rico is progressing and the importance of the island as a regional leader,” the governor stated.
The meetings are held through the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), in collaboration with the Puerto Rico Tourism Co. (PRTC) and the Puerto Rico Convention Center District Authority.
Rosselló said that after Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico has shown that recovery efforts are accelerating. The CHTA maintained its commitment to hold its event on the island, which reaffirms that Puerto Rico is ready to receive visitors again and host the largest regional meeting of the tourism industry in the Caribbean, he added.
The CHTA informed that business travel demand in the Caribbean region is encouraging, given the continued interest and broad participation in the event.
“As entrusted by Gov. Ricardo Rosselló Nevares, we continue working day and night, hand in hand with the private sector to let the world know the island is ready to receive visitors and to make Puerto Rico a tourist destination that has been strengthened with a renewed offering,” PRTC Interim Executive Director Carla Campos said.
Besides hosting the CHTA, several important events will be held in Puerto Rico during the first quarter of the year that represent a boost to the island’s economy.
The tourism event ends Thursday in the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan, where some 900 representatives from roughly 30 countries are expected to attend.
The event’s agenda includes a presentation by the PRTC on the state of tourism in Puerto Rico, as well as plans and projections for 2018. For more information about Caribbean Travel Marketplace, visit https://www.chtamarketplace.com/.
