Puerto Rico IRONMAN Registration Nearing Capacity

SAN JUAN – IRONMAN and BN Sports have announced that online registration for the sixth edition of the IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Rico – Pan American Tri Club Championship triathlon will close March 9.  Onsite registration (individual category only) will be available during the two-day athlete check-in / Expo.

Scheduled for March 20, the IRONMAN Puerto Rico triathlon’s 1.2-mile swim course will take place in the Condado Lagoon next to the Caribe Hilton and Condado Plaza Hilton and the bike course leads athletes toward five different municipalities en route to the inner-loop next to Dorado. The two-loop run course goes through Old San Juan, along Spanish forts Castillo San Felipe del Morro and San Cristobal.  The race finishes at the Parque del Tercer Milenio next to the ocean with what are expected to be huge crowds.

Past IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Rico champions are set to compete including, Tim O’Donnell (2011 and 2012), Andrew Starykowicz (2013 and 2014), Igor Amorelli (2015) and Sarah Haskins (2015). In addition, 2012 IRONMAN World Champion, Fred Van Lierde will join the competitive pro division.

One of more than 90 events in the global IRONMAN 70.3 Series, IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Rico offers a prize purse of $25,000 and 30 age-group qualifying slots to the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, taking place Sept. 4, 2016 in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.
