Puerto Rico IT Cluster to hold 5th annual CIO & IT Leadership Conference
SAN JUAN – With the objective of fostering local talent and obtaining greater information technology resources to compete globally, the Puerto Rico Information Technology Cluster (PRITC)–an industry, government and academia alliance–will hold its annual summit, the CIO & IT Leadership Conference, at the San Juan Convention District’s Sheraton Hotel and Casino on May 11 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
At the event, public and private sector representatives meet to discuss industry challenges and how they can help propel the island’s economic development, among other related topics such as blockchain transactions, cybersecurity, IT talent development and big data. They also evaluate Puerto Rico’s position internationally, and set their sights on improving its technology and innovation service offering.
“Faced with the great challenges we have experienced in recent months in Puerto Rico, now more than ever the IT sector becomes more relevant. We must continue to promote the strategic objectives of the sector, which include developing more resources through our education systems, generating more ideas that translate into intellectual property, and promoting the export of these ideas and services,” PRITC President Alberto Cordero explained in the announcing release Monday. “Achieving these objectives will enable making this sector one of the pillars of economic development at a time when our Island bets on the knowledge economy as a development model.”
During the past four years, the conference has been a key forum for polishing strategies. The event has become one of the foremost business-to-business platforms in the Caribbean while pairing more than 800 local and multinational companies with government agencies.
“This year we want to highlight the work of leading companies at the local level by conferring, for the first time, the Puerto Rico Information Technology Cluster Innovation Awards,” said Cordero, while calling on those interested in attending the event to visit www.puertoricoisit.com.
Some of the private sector attendees, the PRITC said, will be announced shortly, but revealed that Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, Economic Development Secretary Manuel Laboy, Chief Innovation Officer Glorimar Ripoll and Chief Information Officer Luis Arocho, among others, will be participating in the event.
