Puerto Rico New-Car Sales Rise 17.4% in July
SAN JUAN – Driven by a 46.8% increase in fleet sales for July, Puerto Rico auto distributors closed the month with 6,644 units sold, an increase of 17.4%, or 973 units, over July 2015, the United Group of Automobile Importers (GUIA by Spanish acronym) said on Tuesday.
This is the fourth consecutive month that sales of new units are driven by fleet sales, which usually increase during summer and winter, the strong tourism seasons on the island.
Total sales of new units for the current year increased 3.4%, with 47,809 units sold last month. This represents some 1,453 additional new units than sold for the same period last year.
“We are pleased with the way the car market has been moving. Our industry, as well as our partners, has not rested in promoting the best products, offers and services for the local consumer. We insist that there hasn’t been a better than this to acquire a new vehicle. Yet we will remain vigilant…because the fleet market has been the main segment helping produce these results, with a growth of 46.8% over July 2015 and 17.5% for the year to date. We remain alert regarding how the market will behave after this tourism high season ends,” said Ricardo M. García, president of the organization.
