Puerto Rico State Insurance Fund payment deadline is Tuesday
SAN JUAN – The administrator of Puerto Rico’s State Insurance Fund Corp. (SIF), Jesús Rodríguez Rosa, announced Monday that employers have until Tuesday, Jan. 22, to pay the policy and retain employer immunity in the event that an employee has an accident at work.
“It is extremely important that employers take the precaution to protect their businesses, for which they have fought so much, for if they do not, they are liable to losing it if one of their employees gets injured while at work,” the official stressed in a statement.
He said expensive medical costs and multimillion-dollar lawsuits are just some of the obstacles that uninsured employers would have to face.
He also said that employers can make the payment remotely, at www.fondopr.com. Payment may also be made personally at any of SIF’s regional and satellite offices, as well as the newly established employer insurance area in the Minillas Government Center in San Juan.
Rodríguez Rosa, also announced that public hearings will be held in a few weeks regarding the revision of the Trade and Industry and Insurance Type Classifications Handbook, which will be live-streamed via the agency’s YouTube channel.
