Puerto Rico Tourism Co.: Thousands of cruise passengers arriving for San Sebastián Street festival

By on January 18, 2018

SAN JUAN – The interim executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Co., Carla Campos, confirmed the expected arrival of more than 35,000 cruiseship passengers from 11 different vessels during the week of the Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián in Old San Juan, which represents an economic impact of more than $4.5 million.

Campos stressed that this year repeats the extension of activities to Cataño, with the event “De Cataño Pa’ Las Fiestas,” which results in more alternatives for residents and visitors’ enjoyment, and an additional boost to the island’s economy.

As part of Tourism’s preparations to welcome the arrival of thousands of cruise passengers, various working groups were activated to receive, guide and deliver information on the various activities being held, from Wednesday, Jan. 17, to Sunday, Jan. 21, during the festival, as well as an itinerary of the events in Cataño.

“At the Tourism Co., we are happy about the visit by more than 35,000 cruiseship passengers during this week, which gives us the opportunity to let them know about the wonders of our culture, enjoying the experience of our traditional Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián, which are already recognized internationally for their music, crafts, cuisine and the joy that lives in them,” Campos said.

“It is gratifying to be able to receive this large number of visitors at our ports, to show them our tourism attractions, the ability of our people to stand up to any adversity and, beyond that, to have the opportunity to turn them into our spokespeople to let the world know Puerto Rico is ready and open for tourism,” concluded Tourism’s interim executive director.
