Puerto Rico vacationers get access to ‘Hamilton’ tickets
SAN JUAN – The executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Co. (PRTC), Carla Campos, announced details on the sale of “Hamilton” tickets set aside for the government corporation to promote travel to the island.
Lin-Manuel Miranda will reprise his role as Alexander Hamilton for the musical from Jan. 8 to 27 at the University of Puerto Rico Theater (UPR). The tickets available online were sold out in less than two hours Saturday.
However, 1,600 additional tickets have been separated for Tourism Co. partner companies and will be sold as part of four-day, three-night travel packages, which include itineraries with local experiences.
“Since the beginning of 2017, we have been working diligently to maximize the opportunity for Puerto Rico that ‘Hamilton,’ the acclaimed Broadway musical, arrives in Puerto Rico with Lin-Manuel. The joint mission has been clear: to capture the attention of the world, at the same time elevating the essence of our culture, history, landscapes and people,” Campos said.
“Four companies endorsed by the PRTC have tickets for sale in packages that also include lodging, excursions and culinary experiences. Our intention is to motivate those who visit us from abroad to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about our destination.”
After a competitive bidding process opened to Tourism Co.-backed destination management companies, Rutrex, Vámonos Tours, Rico Sun Tours and Castillo Tours will be able to sell 400 tickets each, which can only be acquired if sold as part of the travel packages.
“Each of the operators has curated a different itinerary that highlights our Gastronomy (Rutrex), Culture (Castillo Tours), Museums (Rico Sun Tours), and Adventures (Let’s Go Tours). Those who buy these itineraries will be staying in our lodgings, enjoying excursions specifically designed for these packages, as well as enjoying the ‘Hamilton’ show in Puerto Rico,” Campos said, adding that the “initiative of the ‘Hamilton’ team and the PRTC utilizes the musical as a foothold to make the charms of Puerto Rico known and promote tourism before an international audience.”
The packages are available on the website of the island’s new destination marketing organization, Discover Puerto Rico, at https://welcome.discoverpuertorico.com/hamilton.
“We thank the Miranda family for their commitment to Puerto Rico, for believing in the Tourism Company as a facilitator of these experiences, and for fostering the development of small entrepreneurs in tourism, who have been able to benefit from this initiative,” Campos said.
