Puerto Rico’s power company selects water utility director as chairman
SAN JUAN – At its first meeting, the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority’s (Prepa) new governing board elected Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (Prasa) Director Elí Díaz Atienza as its chairman, and engineer Ralph Kreil Rivera was elected vice chairman.
The panel was reconstituted Thursday after Díaz Atienza and Kreil Rivera were named following the resignation of five members, who left their seats over a dispute about the new CEO’s salary.
The board approved a calendar for the selection of a new chief executive officer (CEO) for the soon to be privatized public corporation from a list of candidates. A new CEO is expected to be chosen next week to begin an orderly transition that will become effective July 23.
Current Prepa CEO Walter Higgins III agreed to continue serving in that capacity until that date.
