Quirch Initiates Voluntary Frozen Vegetable Products’ Recall

SAN JUAN – Quirch Foods Caribbean Inc. is notifying the public and all government agencies in Puerto Rico of an ongoing voluntary recall initiated by CRF Frozen Foods, packer of the Quirch frozen vegetable products listed below. CRF notified Quirch of the voluntary recall on May 4.

The recall is being undertaken in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) because these products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recall of frozen vegetables includes all of the frozen vegetable products manufactured or processed in CRF Frozen Foods’ Pasco facility. All affected products have sell by dates between April 26, 2016 and August 10, 2017. All retailers who received the products have been contacted. Products include sweet peas, peas and carrots mix, baby lima beans, corn, and mixed vegetables, as further described below:
