Rosselló Calls PDP Insistence on IVA ‘Alienated’

By on February 29, 2016

SAN JUAN – Gubernatorial candidate for the New Progressive Party (NPP) Dr. Ricardo Rosselló reacted to Gov. Alejandro García Padilla’s State of the Commonwealth address Monday by stating that “the governor has missed the opportunity to repent and admit the mistakes of his administration.”

“He should have taken back his failed public policy. However, he continues lying to the people and with his stubbornness to continue raising taxes and squeezing the poor, hard-working and productive class of our island,” the NPP leader said after the governor’s message.

“Alejandro García Padilla said in 2014 that he had saved [the island’s] fiscal matters. However, his government has Puerto Rico in bankruptcy. Undoubtedly, this administration of [García Padilla] and [Popular Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate David] Bernier has been the worst in our history,” Rosselló said.

He argued that with their positions, “the PDP has inflicted profound damage to the economy. Now they want to insist on raising the IVA [Spanish acronym for value-added tax] to 15%.”
