Rosselló Presents Transparency and Anti-Corruption Measures
SAN JUAN — New Progressive Party (NPP) gubernatorial candidate Ricardo Rosselló presented a series of initiatives to guarantee transparency, preventing public corruption, and granting people more access in government management.
“The historical moment we are living requires the establishment of stricter standards and qualifications when hiring employees in positions of trust. Anaudi Hernández’s corruption scheme revealed how there were improper pressures, based on political donations, for the designation of positions of trust and arranging public funds, mocking the law,” he expressed, adding he seeks “a process where transparency measures can be established in order to prevent corruption acts on these types of processes.”
As part of the measures aimed toward improving the government’s hiring process, the NPP politician presented a digital platform that allows everyone interested in a public position to present their qualifications for evaluation.
Rosselló said this procedure has been performed internally between ‘Plan for Puerto Rico’ members for the past four years, but “we want to expand it beyond, so there is access for the people and everyone that understands they can contribute with their talent.”
“What we present today goes hand in hand with our proposal to establish a portal that makes public the trajectory and qualifications of people who, after the evaluation process, end up named in positions of trust. This will allow the people to have access and evaluate said designations and the qualifications of elected people,” he stated as he stressed the need for the government to recover its credibility and prevent public corruption.
The initiative is summarized in three stages: the use of a technological platform that makes it easy for people to submit their work history under the technological industry’s highest security standards; establishment of higher requirements in the evaluation and hiring process; granting public access to the professional history of people interested in government positions.
