San Juan Mayor says San Sebastián Street Festival will help economic development
SAN JUAN – San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz says that amid Puerto Rico’s financial crisis, the San Sebastián Street Festival in January will be transformed into an “economic development” event.
Cruz, who has rejected the establishment of the Financial Oversight & Management Board and criticized that the Government Development Bank has withheld some $30 million from the capital, commented that culture is the festival’s catalyst.
“The next San Sebastián Street Festival, given the country’s financial situation, is no longer only a festival but an economic development event in which culture is the engine that drives the event” attended by tens of thousands of locals and people from abroad.
The mayor emphasized that the festival is “an event of great renown that includes the arrival of cruise ships” and added that the largest cruise ship in the world “will [arrive] in late December.”
