San Juan’s Muñoz Marín Airport Named Among Top 10 in the Caribbean
Puerto Rico’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (call sign: SJU) has been named the sixth best airport in the Caribbean, according to Caribbean Journal, a tourism industry publication.
Muñoz Marín Airport, located in Carolina, is the island’s main airport and has been managed by Aerostar Airport Holdings since 2013, as part of a private-public partnership. Since that time, Aerostar has invested more than $937 million to renovate and remodel the airport.
The magazine made a positive note of such improvements. “Built in 1955, the Caribbean’s busiest airport was, frankly, showing its age. A welcome reconstruction program is still ongoing, but a number of improvements have made transiting through much more pleasant. Among them: JetBlue’s modern facility in Terminal A and Terminal C’s The Lounge. SJU gets our nod as most improved,” Caribbean Journal stated.
The top three airports in the Caribbean, according to the publication, were Princess Juliana International Airport in St Maarten, V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua, and Queen Beatrix International Airport in Aruba.
