Scenic Building Luxury ‘Discovery Yacht’

By on January 18, 2016

SAN JUAN – River cruise company Scenic has announced the launch of the “world’s first discovery yacht,” the Scenic Eclipse. Three years in planning, Scenic’s recently established ocean cruising line heralds a new direction for the award-winning luxury travel operator.

The Eclipse will embark on her maiden voyage on Aug. 31, 2018, sailing from Istanbul to Venice, followed by voyages to the Caribbean, Antarctica, Europe and the Mediterranean, and the Arctic and Norwegian Fjords.

A “6-star” ship, the ultra-luxury mega yacht will carry 228 guests in 114 all-veranda suites ranging from 344 square feet to a 2,500-square-foot two-bedroom penthouse suite.

Guests will have six on-board dining options – French cuisine, Pan Asian, Italian, steak or dining on the pool deck. The vessel has a 5,000-square-foot spa, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, pools, and a gym with a separate yoga and Pilates studio.

Included are all meals, beverages, butler service, an almost 1:1 guest-to-staff ratio and entertainment and lectures in the 240-seat theater. Gratuities, guides for shore excursions,  activities and special events are included as well.

The Eclipse is expected to have the highest passenger-ship ice class rating – Polar Class 6. It will take guests to “places previously thought inaccessible,” the company says, by using its two on-board helicopters as well as a seven-seat submarine.

Scenic Chairman Glen Moroney commented: “Our goal with Scenic Eclipse was to open up the private Discovery Yacht experience so that our guests could discover regions previously only visited by a fortunate few.”
